Handle the pistons with care and do not attempt to force them through the cylinder until the cylinder has been bored to correct sizeThis type piston can be distorted through careless handling6Thoroughly clean the cylinder bores with hot water and soapScrub well with stiff bristle brush and rinse thoroughly with hot waterIt is extremely essential that good cleaning operation be performedIf any of the abrasive material is allowed to remain in the cylinder bores, it will rapidly wear the new rings and cylinder boresIn addition, the bearing will be lubricated by the contaminated oilThe bores should be swabbed severa! times with light engine oil and clean cloth and then wiped with clean dry clothCylinder should not be cleaned with kerosene or gasolineClean the remainder of the cylinder block to remove the excess material spread during the honing operation!
Distributor Lower Bearing
The distributor lower bearing is bronze bushing pressed into the lower side of the engine blockIts upper inside diameter pilots the distributor shaft, and the outside diameter extending below the block pilots the oil pumpSome engines have thrust washer at the upper end of the bushing boreThe thrust washer, where used, may be replaced at the same time the bushing is replacedThe lower bushing will ordinarily require only clearance or wear check during engine overhaulWhen distributor shaft-to-bushing clearance exceeds 0.0035 in(O,OSS9 mm) the bushing should be replaced as follows with oil pump and distributor removed:
