10Proper clearance of the piston ring in its piston ring groove is very important in maintaining engine performance and in preventing excessive oil consumptionTherefore, when fitting new rings, the clearances between the top and bottom surfaces of the ring grooves should be inspected11The compression rings should be fitted so that the clearance is 0.0012-0.0029 in(O,03048-0,07366 mm)12Assemble the rings to the pistons as they are fitted and make final test of the ring fit in the grooves by repeating the fitting procedure given above
Expander ends must not align with the ring gap
