Tools Required: 8001 Dial Indicator or equivalent 9666 Valve Spring Tester
1Valve stem to guide bore clearanceINotel Excessive valve stem to guide bore clearance will cause excessive oil consumption and may damage componentsInsufficient clearance will result in noisy and sticky functioning of the valve and interfere with engine smoothness

m of the cylinder head valve Jrocker armequivalent on one aClamp dial indicator 8001 or side cover gasket rail.bObserve dial indicator movement while moving valve from side to side (crosswise to the head)The dial indicator measurement must be taken just above the valve guide borecDrop the valve head about 0.063 in(1,6 mm) off the valve seatdMove the stem of the valve from side to side using light pressure to obtain clearance readingIf clearance exceeds specifications, it will be necessary to ream the valve guide bores for oversize valves as outlined later2Valve spring tension, using 9666 or equivalent
