Section 05 ENGINE MANAGEMENT (2-TEC) Subsection 01 (OVERVIEW)
IGNITION TIMING
The ECM is programmed with data (it contains ignition mappings) for optimum ignition timing under all operating conditionsUsing engine operating conditions provided by the sensors, the ECM controls the ignition timing for optimum engine operation
FLOODED ENGINE (DROWNED MODE)
If the engine does not start and it is fuel-flooded, this special mode can be activated to prevent fuel injection and ignition while crankingProceed as follows: With tether cord cap on its post while engine is stopped, press completely and HOLD throttle leverPress the STARTRER buttonThe mode is now onThe engine should be cranked for 20 secondsNOTE: No spark occurs on drowned modeRelease STARTRER button and throttle leverTry to start the engine normallyIf the engine does not start, it may be necessary to remove the spark plugs and crank the engine with rags over spark plug holesRefer to COMPONENT INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT
