Section 04 ENGINE Subsection 02 (277 ENGINE TYPE)
ASSEMBLY
Install connecting rod with its lubrication slot on big end facing exhaust sideSmear anti-seize lubricant (PN 293 800 070) on part of crankshaft where bearing fitsPrior to installation, place bearings into an oil container and heat the oil to 75C (167F) for to 10 minThis will expand bearings and ease installationInstall bearings with groove outwardNOTE: Crankshaft end play requires adjustment only when crankshaft andor crankcase is replacedPrior to magneto side bearing installation, determine crankshaft end play and install required shim(s) on crankshaft extensionFor the crankshaft end play adjustment procedure, refer to LEAK TEST AND ENGINE DIMENSION MEASUREMENTPrior to crankcase adjoining, install protector sleeve on each crankshaft extension to prevent oil seal damageApply light coat of lithium grease on seal lipSpray some new injection oil on all moving parts of the crankshaftInstall crankshaft seals with pusher (PN 420 277 875) for MAG side seal no4 and (PN 420 876 660) for PTO side seal no3CAUTION: To ensure appropriate crankshaft bearing lubrication, seal outer surface must be pressed against seal crankcase shoulderUsing press, install crankshaft into MAG side crankcase half
