Traction
Most rules limit maximum stud height to 38" over the tallest part of the trackTrack cutting is illegalA camoplast oval track is available (PN 700 9844), it has 19 mm (34 in) lug height and tall guide clips for oval racing Use thin profile, sharp tipped stud for hard ice conditionsIf the track conditions get sloppy, exchange some picks for chisel or wedge type stud Seven picks per bar for total of 336 studs will be required for all sleds up to about 100 HPBigger sleds may require more picks andor hooker plates Use 51 mm (2 in), hole angled aluminum backer plates for the majority of your pattern, especially on the outside beltsThe right hand belt will need 51 mm (2 in) plate on every pitchFill in the pattern with 25 mm (1 in) square backer platesThe pattern should not repeat itself for at least pitches Use good quality square bar carbide runner with 254 mm (10 in) of carbide for startersAs you gain experience, try 356 mm (14 in) of carbide for more front end bite Studs and carbides need to be SHARP! The carbide must shave your fingernail when scraped across and studs must prick your finger
