SECTION 03CHASSIS PREPARATION
Finally, adjust the track tension and alignmentTrack tension and alignment are most critical to top speedMake certain the track is aligned so that you have equal clearance between the slider shoe and the track guides on each side of the snowmobileFor straight line racing, top speed can sometimes be increased by running the track bit looserRatcheting of the drive sprockets during hard acceleration can occur if the track is too looseConversely, heavily studded tracks may need to be tighter to achieve top speed because the extra weight of the studs may cause the track to balloon out at high speedsNOTE: Track tension should be checked whenever major changes are made to the limiter strap length andor ride height changes
If extreme brake use is anticipated, use inch diameter dryer hose (or equivalent) to route outside air directly from the hood vents to the brake areaSKI-DOO hydraulic brake systems use DOT brake fluidFor conditions where extreme brake heat is generated, DOT fluid can be usedDOT has higher boiling point but it is more susceptible to moisture intrusion and should be changed on regular basisIf the brakes become spongy, the system should be bled to remove any air bubblesIf the brake fluid is dark andor cloudy, flush the complete system and refill with fresh brake fluid1
