Section 05 ENGINE MANAGEMENT Subsection 02 (COMPONENT INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT)
IDLE BYPASS VALVE
An idle bypass valve with good resistance measurement can still be faultyIt is also possible that mechanical failure occurs which is not detectable without measuring the air flowReplacing the idle bypass valve may be necessary as test
CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (CPS)
Resistance Test
Disconnect idle bypass valve from the wiring harnessUsing multimeter, check the resistance in both windingsCheck the resistance between terminals and and also between terminals and of the idle bypass valveThe resistance in each winding should be approximately 50 at 23C (73F)If the resistance of one or both windings is not good, replace the idle bypass valveIf resistance test of valve windings is good, check continuity of circuits A-35, A-36, A-37, A-38Visual Inspection Remove idle bypass valve from throttle bodyCheck the piston and bypass channel for dirtdeposits which can cause sticking pistonCAUTION: Do not try to operate the piston of the idle bypass valve when it is dismountedAlso do not move the piston by handThe screw drive is very sensitive and will be destroyedClean the parts and install the idle bypass valve on the throttle bodyProceed with the Closed Throttle and Idle Actuator ResetSee above
