Section 06 ELECTRICAL Subsection 04 (BATTERY)
BATTERY STORAGE
Disconnect and remove battery from the vehicleCheck electrolyte level in each cell, add distilled water up to upper level line
Do not overfill
CAUTION

The battery must always be stored in fully charged conditionIf required, charge until specific gravity of 1.260 is obtained-
CAUTION

A new battery is factory fresh dry chargedFor storage purposes, it is fitted with temporary sealing tubeDo not remove the sealing tube or loosen battery caps unless activation is desiredIn case of accidental premature removal of caps or sealing tube, battery should be given full chargePerform the following operations anytime new battery is to be installed1Remove the sealing tube from the vent elbowInstall vent tube, included in the battery kit, to battery elbow
Battery electrolyte temperature must not exceed 50C (122F)The casing should not feel hotClean battery terminals and cable connections using wire brushApply light coat of dielectric grease (PN 413 701 700) or petroleum jelly on terminalsClean battery casing and caps using solution of baking soda and waterDo not allow cleaning solution to enter battery, otherwise it will destroy the electrolyteRinse battery with clear water and dry well using clean clothStore battery on wooden shelf in cool dry placeSuch conditions reduce self-discharging and keep fluid evaporation to minimumDuring the storage period, recheck electrolyte level and specific gravity readings at least every 40 daysAs necessary, keep the battery at its upper level line and near full charge as possible (trickle charge)
