Section 03 ENGINE Sub-Section 10 (REWIND STARTER)
REMOVAL
Using small screwdriver, extract rope knot from starter grip no16Cut rope close to knotTie knot near starterRemove screws no3 and washers no2 securing rewind starter no1 to engine then remove rewind starterOn fan cooled models with oil injection pump remove pump from rewind starter coverDISASSEMBLY
To remove rope from rewind starter mechanism: First remove locking ring no12, locking spring no11, circlip no10, pawl lock no9 and pawl no8 Remove sheave no5 from starter housing no1 Disengage key no7 and pull out rope no6

' starter must be periodically cleaned, inspected and relubricatedCAUTION
It is of the utmost importance that the rewind starter spring(s) be lubricated periodically using specific lubricantsOtherwise, rewind starter component life will be shortened andor rewind starter will not operate properly under very cold temperaturesLubricate spring assembly with silicone compound grease (PN 420 8970 61) and position into starter housing as illustrated
