Section 05 ELECTRICAL Sub-Section 03 (IGNITION TIMING)

The ignition components are affected by temperature variation, therefore, timing must be checked when engine is cold, after idling for MAXIMUM of 20 secondsNOTEOn applicable models, turn heating grips off prior to checking ignition timing1Connect timing light pick-up to the spark plug leadUse digital induction type tachometer (PN 529 0145 00)'

1Fan cowl timing mark 2Yellow fin

If marks do not align, there is something wrong with fan mountingCheck Woodruff key and fanCAUTIONAlways check the timing with stroboscopic timing light at 6000 RPM after the marks have been checked

Checking Ignition Timing
NOTETo perform this procedure we strongly recommend stroboscopic timing light which is able to exceed 6000 RPMTo check ignition timing, use timing light (PN 529 0092 00)NOTEThis timing light is battery powered (2 alkaline batteries, type C) and therefore needs no auxiliary power supplyIf different timing light requiring auxiliary power supply is used on manual start models, use separate battery to power timing light
