Sub-Section 04 (BATTERY)

BATTERY
A hydrometer measures the state of charge of battery In terms of specific gravity Most hydrometers only read true at 2rC (80 F) In order to obtain correct readings, adjust the initial reading by adding .004 pOints to the hydrometer readings for each 55"C (lOOF) above 27C (80F) and by subtracting .004 pOints for every 55 11 Oc F) below 2JOC (80F) THIS CHART WII_L HELP YOU TO FIND THE CORRECT READING
CLEANING
Clean the battery casing, vent caps, cables and battery posts using solution of baking soda and water,CAUTION: Do not allow cleaning solution to enter battery interior since it will destroy the electrolyteRemove corrosion from battery cable terminals and battery posts using firm copper brush

Visually inspect battery casing for cracks or other possible damageIf casting IS damaged, replace battery Inspect battery posts for security of mounting Inspect for cracked or damaged battery caps, replace defective caps WARNING: Some battery caps do not have vent holesIf so, make sure that overflow tube is un obstructed
