118 Starter Solenoid Test
CHAPTER SIX
1The starter solenoid is sealed magnetic switch and cannot be repairedIf defective, it must be replaced2Remove and insulate cable from starter terminalConnect test light across large terminals of starter solenoid3With jumper lead, connect positive (+) battery post to small terminal on solenoidSolenoid plunger should snap in, light the test lamp, and hold until the jumper is removedIf not, solenoid is defectiveRectifier Test
upDo not test terminals in diagonal pattern3With leads connected one way, test light should lightWith leads reversed, high resistance or open condition should be indicatedRepeat test for the other diodesReplace if defective
