CHAPTER FOUR
Refer to Figure 100 for this procedure1Pull out rope and holdUse an ice pick or similar sharp tool and disengage key clamp from rope (Figure 101)Remove rope from sheave and hand gripNOTE: On some early models, starter rope was secured by jam pin through the center of the sheave hubOn these models, remove circlip, cover washer, and pivoting arm assembly to expose rope end loop and jam pin on back of sheaveRemove rope from sheave, taking care not to losejam pin
2Remove circlip, cover washer, and pivot arm assembly complete with friction washersDo not disassemble pivot arm assembly unless worn and replacement parts are necessary3Remove "D" washer and rope sheave4Gently tap on outside starter housing to remove spring cartridge5Pry spring cartridge open with small screwdriver and remove springWARNING
