CARBURETION Adjustments Throttle Synchronization Procedure-Mikuni and Keihin
1Remove air box, noting position of throttle cable junction blockReposition throttle cable and junction block in same position when air box is reinstalledThrottle Cable Synchronization (Throttle Gap) 2Referring to specification section in chapter 1, select correct diameter Throttle Gap synchronization drill gauge for your engineNOTE: Keihin carburetors, require special tool with two drill gauges separated by an 8mm gapSee illustrations at right3Back out idle screws about three turns4Slightly lift throttle slides with throttle lever and insert tool or drill gauge under throttle slideAllow throttle slides to returnNOTE: Be sure tool is positioned properly on Keihin carburetorssee Ill2 and Ill3Mikuni see Ill45Loosen lock nut and turn throttle cable adjuster (on top of carburetor) in (clockwise) or out (counterclockwise) as required until slight drag can be felt on the gauge or tool6Securely tighten throttle cable synchronization lock nut7Repeat steps through on remaining carburetorIdle Gap Synchronization 8Referring to chart in the Specifications section, chapter 1, select correct diameter Idle Gap drill gauge for the engine9Slightly lift throttle slides with throttle lever and insert idle gap drill gauge under throttle slideAllow throttle slides to return10Turn idle adjustment screw in as required until only slight drag can be felt on the gauge11Repeat steps through 10 for remaining cylinders12Verify proper throttle lever free play and adjust if necessary, by loosening cable adjuster locknuts and turning adjusters out equally until throttle lever freeplay is correctThrottle Free Play (Std 0.0100.030 (.25-.76mm) EZ Throttle 0.0500.060 (1.25-1.50mm)
