Drive and Brake Systems Jackshaft Removal
1Drain the chaincase oil into an appropriate container2Remove the drive belt3Remove the driven clutch, noting the number and location of the driven clutch offset washers4Remove the chaincase cover5Relieve tension on the chain tensioner6Remove the cotter pin on the jackshaft7Lock the parking brake and remove the nut on the top gear8Remove the lower gear fastener9Remove the upper gear, lower gear and chain from the chaincase10Remove the jackshaft flange from the driven clutch side of the jackshaft11Hold the brake disc and slide the jackshaft out through the flange side12Inspect drive shaft and jackshaft in bearing contact areaIf diameter is .001" (0.025 mm) less than noncontact area, shaft, replace the jackshaft5Torque the upper gear fastener to specification
Upper Gear Castle Nut: 50 ft-lbs (68 Nm) 6Insert the cotter pin and bend the edges around the nut flats7Adjust the chain tensioner until there is .25-.375" (0.60.95cm) chain deflection8Install the chaincase cover, and torque the cover fasteners to specification
