Engine and Cooling Systems DisassemblyAssembly Process IMPORTANT: Use the mechanical seal installation tool, PN: 2872010 to install the water pump mechanical seal1Remove the coolant from the engine using siphon, wetdry vacuum or drain hoses into drain pan2Remove the airbox, exhaust pipe and resonatorRemove the hose connected to the water pump cover3To access the impeller and mechanical seal, remove the water pump coverDiscard the water pump cover gasketCarefully use gasket scraper to remove all residual gasket material4Remove the impeller nut, impeller and washer from the cross shaft5Carefully pry the mechanical seal and seal out of the crankcaseNOTE: Mechanical seal removal can be aided by carefully screwing two wood screws into the seal face, and then using the screws to extract the assemblyA bushing is installed behind the water pump mechanical seal and prevents cross shaft removal from water pump sideThe bushing is not serviceableDo not remove the locking screw6Use small scribe or pick to remove the oil sealDiscard seal and replace with new partInstall with seal lips facing bushing7Water pump assembly is the reverse of disassemblyAlways use new mechanical seal and gaskets during assembly8To install the mechanical seal, use the seal installation tool, PN 2872010Verify the seal lips are facing the cross shaft gear9Engine removal is required to remove the oil pump coverRemove the two fasteners and then pull the cover off of the crankcase boreDiscard the gasket10The cross shaft can be extracted from the cover side of the crankcase11Assembly is the reverse of disassemblyAlways use new o-ring during assembly
