MAINTENANCE Water Pump Belt Tension 700 and 800 Domestic big block TwinsThe water pump belt on 600 RMK, 700 RMK and 800 RMK domestic big block twin snowmobile engines should be inspected every 1500 milesBelts should be inspected by measuring the width at several locations around the beltBelt width at any location should not be thinner than .250 (6.35mm)Replace the belt if you notice any loose cords, broken cracked or missing cogs, and variations in widthIf the water pump belt fails, serious engine damage could resultNominal thickness of new belt should be approximately .345 (8.75mm)Check belt tension by rotating crankshaft 18 turn at timeThe tension should be equal at all points of rotation
Replace if width is less than .25 (6.35mm)Nominal new width is .345 (8.75mm)A weight is needed to test belt deflectionConstruct weight out of wire and weights such as thick washersUse the illustration to assist you The finished weight should weigh lbs

2Measure the belt deflection using the following procedure: aHang weight midway between pulleysWeight must hang free and not rest on any part of machinebLay straight edge or straight piece of stiff material (steel is suggested) across the top of both pulleysThe straight edge should measure approximately 18 cMeasure the gap between the belt and the straight edge at the point where the weight is hangingMeasured distance must be between .1 and .25 If the measured distance is more than the specification, try another waterpump beltWide Enough to Span Belt .062 to .090 Wire Suggested
