ENGINES Recoil Starter Spring Replacement Disassembly
CAUTION: Wear eye protection when servicing recoilSpring can unwind suddenly and unexpectedly if dislodged1Remove recoil handle and allow rope to retract and spring to unwind completely2Remove retaining nut, friction plate, and ratchet pawl from reel face3Lift reel assembly straight up, out of housingNOTE: If spring tension is relieved and the reel is lifted straight out, the spring will most likely remain in the housing; however-be sure to heed caution above
Assembly
1If the spring was removed, reinstall it by spiraling counterclockwise toward the center2Lubricate center shaft and spring with grease
