1Unbolt and remove the recoil starter assembly (Figure 8)It is not necessary to remove the handle if the starter assembly can be located out of the way inside the engine compartmentNOTE You can remove the flywheel with the engine installedThe accompanying photographs show the engine removed for clarity

The flywheel must be removed to service the stator coilsFlywheel replacement is usually necessary, only if the keyway in the flywheel is damaged, magnets have been damaged or if the flywheel is damaged by improper removal proceduresRefer to the appropriate procedure for your model
