Fuel System-Carbureted Models

The fuel system consists of the fuel tank, fuel pump, carburetors and air silencerThis chapter includes service procedures for all parts of the carbureted fuel systemTwo-cylinder models without Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) are equipped with two slide type carburetorsThreecylinder models are equipped with three slide type carburetorsRefer to the Fuel Injection System in Chapter Seven for service information on EFI modelsThere are differences among the different models, which are noted in the service procedures and tablesCarburetor application and specifications are listed in Tables and at the end of the chapter
AIR SILENCER
The air silencer typical of all models is shown in Figure and 2The air silencer, sometimes referred to as the air box, should be inspected periodically for cleanliness and cracksCAUTION Never run the engine with the air silencer removedRunning without the air silencer or air filters can lean the fuel mixture (too much air-not enoughfuel) and may result in engine seizureThe air silencerandfilters must be installedduring carburetor adjustments
