11Check the top surface of the cylinderIf the surface appears warped, scratched or corroded, the cylinder can be resurfaced lightly as followsaTape piece of 400-600 grit wet emery sandpaper to piece of thick plate glass or surface platebSlowly resurface the top of the cylinder by moving it in figure-eight pattern on the sandpaper (Figure 38, typical)cRotate the cylinder several times to avoid removing too much material and check the progress often12After the cylinder has been serviced, wash the bore with hot soapy waterThis is the only way to clean the fine grit material left from the bore or honing job from the cylinder wallAfter washing, run clean white cloth through the cylinderThe white cloth should show no traces of grit or other debrisIf the white cloth test indicates the cylinder is still dirty, rewash the cylinder wallAfter the cylinder is thoroughly cleaned, lubricate the cylinder wall with clean engine oilCylinder Stud Replacement
