86 Ski Alignment

is more than the measurement at the rear of the skis, the skis are toed outNOTE The threads of the rod ends (A, Figure 25) at the outer ends of the tie rods, the matching threads ofjam nuts (B, Figure 25) and the threads in the outer ends of the tie rods are left-handThreads of the tie rod ends, jam nuts and in the tie rods at the inner end are right-handThe length ofthe tie rod can be changed after loosening the jam nuts at the ends of the tie rod by twisting the tie rod
Ski alignment should be checked at the beginning of each season, when steering component has been replaced, or if control is problemSki alignment should also be checked if ski experiences hard side impactRefer to Chapter Fifteen for complete ski alignment procedures1Park the snowmobile on level surface2Tum the handlebar so it faces straight ahead3With the handlebar facing straight ahead, slide long straightedge under the snowmobile against one side of the trackSee Figure 234Make sure the straightedge is against the track, then measure the distance from the straightedge to flat surface at the front of ski and to flat surface at the rear of the same skiSee Figure 24Record these measurements5Measure the distance from the straightedge to flat surface at the front and at the rear of the other skiRecord these measurements6The measured difference from the straightedge to the side of the skis should be either the same at the front and rear or no more than 118 in(3.2 mm) greater at the front of the ski than at the rearIf the measurement at the front of the skis
