TROUBLESHOOTING

If crankcase seals or cylinder base gaskets leak, the crankcase cannot hold either pressure or vacuum and proper engine operation is impossibleAny other source ofleakage such as porous or cracked crankcase castings will result in the same conditionsIt is possible to test for and isolate engine crankcase leaksThe test is simple but requires special equipmentA typical two-stroke pressure test kit is shown in Figure 22Pressure testing requires plugging all engine openings, then applying air pressureIf the engine does not hold air, leak is present that must be located and repairedThe following procedure describes typical pressure test:
