GENERAL INFORMATION
the shaftUse brass or aluminum rod between the hammer and shaft (Figure 70)Make sure to support both bearing races with wood blocks3The most ideal method of bearing removal is with hydraulic hand pressHowever, certain procedures must be followed or damage may occur to the bearing, shaft or case halfNote the following when using press: aAlways support the inner and outer bearing races with suitably sized wood or aluminum ring (Figure 71)If only the outer race is supported, the balls andor the inner race will be damagedbAlways make sure the press ram (Figure 71) aligns with the center of the shaftIf the ram is not centered, it may damage the bearing andor shaftcThe moment the shaft is free of the bearing, it will drop to the floorSecure or hold the shaft to prevent it from fallingBearing Installation 1If installing bearing in housing, pressure must be applied to the outer bearing race (Figure 72)If installing bearing on shaft, pressure must be applied to the inner bearing race (Figure
