Wear Ring
Check wear ring no18 for deep scratches, irregular surface or any apparent damageIf impellerwear ring clearance is too large and impeller is in good shape, renew wear ring
To check both bearings, proceed the same way with other shaft endPosition gauge tip on diameter, close to flats on shaftNeedle Bearing and Impeller Shaft
WEAR Inspect needle bearings no19 and their contact surfaceCheck for scoring, pitting, chipping or other evidence of wearWith your finger nail, feel contact surface of sealIf any irregular surface is found, renew impeller shaft no21Install bearings, then install impeller shaft and rotate itMake sure it turns smoothlyRADIAL PLAY Radial play is critical for jet pump unit life spanRadial play of impeller shaft is checked with shaft in housing, without impellerRetain housing in soft jaw vise making sure not to damage housing lugSet dial gauge and position its tip onto shaft end, close to end of threadsMove shaft end up and downDifference between highest and lowest dial gauge reading is radial playMaximum permissible radial play is 0.05 mm (.002 in)
