Section 09 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Subsection 02 (IGNITION SYSTEM)
Trigger Coil Verification
STATIC TEST: CONTINUITY 1Disconnect magneto wiring harness connector2Install the 6-pin magneto harness adapter (PN 295 000 136)
5Crank engine and note resultThe obtained value should be between 0.2 and 0.5 Vac6If the trigger coil is out of specification, replace it
Ignition Coil Verification
Before conducting any testing on the ignition coil, make sure there is at least 12 Vdc at the primary wiresIf there is insufficient voltage, the ignition problem is occurring before the ignition coilSTATIC TEST NOTE: An ignition coil with good resistance measurement can still be faultyVoltage leak can occur at high voltage level which is not detectable with an ohmmeterPrimary Winding 1Remove the female spade connectors from the primary side of the ignition coil2With the multimeter set on the resistance scale, connect the meter probes to the primary terminals of the coil3Resistance should be between 0.330.62 ohmSecondary Winding The spark plug caps must be removed from high tension cables, because they are resistor capsThe cap resistance is 4.48 ohms1 2
