Section 05
ENGINE MANAGEMENT (DI) Subsection 02 (OVERVIEW)

The airfuel rail assembly is mounted on top of the cylinder headIt provides support for the airfuel injectors and both air and fuel regulatorsIt also contains passages for the air and the fuelThe rail is small reservoir for the injectors that keeps enough fluid at the proper pressure to supply the injectors demand
FUEL PUMP MODULE

Fuel Injector
Fuel injectors are used to provide fuel from the fuel rail to the to the direct injector
Fuel Pressure Regulator
A fuel pressure regulator controls the pressure inside the fuel rail, and allows the excess of fuel to return to the fuel tankThe fuel pressure regulator regulates the fuel pressure at approximately 185 kPa (27 PSI) higher than the air pressure in the fuel railThe back side of the diaphragm is exposed to the air rail pressureAs the air pressure increases in the fuel rail, the fuel pressure needed to open the regulator will increase equallyThe differential pressure regulation utilizes the air pressure reference signal to maintain constant pressure drop across fuel injector orificeThe initial operating pressure of the regulator is preset by the manufacturer and is not adjustable
