Section 08 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Subsection 03 (CHARGING SYSTEM)
CHARGING SYSTEM
GENERAL
Magneto
The purpose of the charging system is to keep the battery at full state of chargeThe magneto is the primary source of electrical energyIt transforms magnetic field into electric current (AC)717 Engine The magneto has three-pole coilCapacity is 160 watts947 Engine The magneto has phase, "Y" wound stator on 18 polesCapacity is 180 watts787 RFI Engine The magneto has phase, delta wound stator on 18 polesCapacity is 270 wattsFuse
If the battery is regularly discharged, check fuse conditionThe rectifierregulator could be the culprit of blown fuseTo check, simply disconnect the rectifier regulator from the circuitIf the fuse still burns, check for defective wireCAUTION: Do not use higher rated fuse as this cause severe damageGSX RFI and GTX RFI The charging system is protected by fusesA 15 fuse is mounted on the MPEM and 20 fuse is located in the rear electrical boxGTS Model 15 fuse protects the charging systemThe fuse is located on the MPEM, inside the electrical boxAll Other Models Two 15 fuses protect the charging systemThe first one is mounted on the MPEM and the other one is located in the rear electrical box
