IGNITION SYSTEM TESTING PROCEDURE
When dealing with ignition problems, the following items should be verified in this order: 1Spark occurrencespark plug condition2Battery condition3Electrical connections4Engine startstop switch5Safety lanyard switch6Timer7Multi-Purpose Electronic Module (MPEM)8Magneto output (717 engine)9Ignition coil output
Connect one test probe to the BLACK wire and the other test probe to the switch ringMeasure resistance, it must be close to ohmSafety Lanyard on Switch Connect test probes to switch BLACK and BLACK YELLOW wiresMeasure resistance, it must be close to ohm
Timer Verification
The timer is integrated into the MPEMAlways confirm first that the fuses are in good conditionTo confirm operation of timer, remove safety lanyard from switchAfter seconds delay, depress startstop button onceThe timer should stay on for about 33 seconds (for example, gauge(s) will be activated) and then turn off-
