To check if the speed sensor is operational, disconnect the speed sensor connector housing from inside bilgeUsing an appropriate terminal remover (Snap-on TT600-4), remove the PURPLEYELLOW and BLACKORANGE wires from the tab housing of the speed sensorReconnect the PURPLEYELLOW and BLACKORANGE wires in the receptacle housingConnect the positive probe of voltmeter to speed sensor PURPLEYELLOW wire and the negative probe to speed sensor BLACKORANGE wireDepress the startstop button to activate the timerSpin the paddle wheelThere should be voltage fluctuation
The PURPLE wire is the 12 VDC power source of the tachometerThe BLACK wire is the groundThe GRAY wire is the pulse signal from the multipurpose electronic module (MPEM)
