Fuel Injection System Communication ProblemsError Screen
NOTE: There are two communication failure modes that must be realized when troubleshooting noncommunication error with an EMMFirst, if the engine starts up and runs, the EMM's communication function is not defectiveThe problem in this scenario can only be attributed to the laptop, PODIAG version, communication cable, or operator errorIf the engine will not start or run, then the EMM's communication function may be corruptedFurther testing, as described on the next pages is requiredThe EMM must be powered up for communication to occurThis means the battery must be charged and connectedThe stop switch lanyard must also be connectedThe Main Menu screen will be displayed when the laptop and EMM establish communicationIf the program locates and opens the selected com port but cannot communicate with the EMM for any reason, it will display the screen shown in illustration at rightThe software will not advance beyond this screen until communication can be established between the laptop computer and the EMMIf you see this screen, make sure the: tether cord is plugged into stop switch the DIt EMM Service Power Connector is installed battery cables are clean and tight battery voltage is at least 12.4 volts electrical connections are clean and tight circuit breaker is not tripped communication cable is attached to the laptop and to the diagnostic connector of the engine wiring harness com port number you entered, when starting or configuring the program, is connected to the communication cable
