Electrical Systems Electrical Testing Charging System TestingUnregulated VoltageCarbureted Models
1Open electrical box to gain access to components2Turn multimeter to Volts AC position3Disconnect the Yellow and RedPur wires from the terminal board and CDI moduleConnect one of the tester leads to the Yellow stator wire and the other lead to the RedPur stator wire4Start the engineWhile observing the voltage reading, increase engine speed to about 3000 RPMReading should be above 20 VACIf output is low, test the stator battery charge coils with an ohmmeter and compare to specification: .75 ohms
Charging System TestingRegulated VoltageCarbureted Models
1Turn multimeter to volts DC and connect the leads across the battery terminals2Start and briefly run the engine at 3000 RPMMeasured voltage should be around 1414.5 VDCA higher reading may indicate regulator problem or poor groundA lower reading may indicate an excessive system load, stator problem, or faulty regulator or wire connection3If DC voltage is low, check all connections and charge the battery prior to retestNOTE: The regulatorrectifier is located within the LR moduleIt is not serviceable and must be replaced if suspect
