Electrical Systems Starter MotorInspection Armature Testing
1Using digital multitester, measure resistance between each of the segments of the commutatorThe reading should indicate .3 ohms or less
2Measure resistance between commutator and armature shaftReading should be infinite (OL)Inspect surface of commutator wear or discolorationReplace if excessively worn or damaged3Place armature in growlerWith growler on, position hacksaw blade lengthwise, 18" (.3 cm) above armature coil laminatesRotate armature 360 If the hacksaw blade is drawn toward the armature on any pOint, the armature is faulty and must be replaced
