CarburetionExhaust Reed Valve Removal
1Remove air box inlet and hose clampRemove air box cover and screen Remove (9) intake base bolts and intake base
CAUTION: I
Cover carbs and use care not to drop washers or debris into carb openings2Remove fuel inlet lines and plug to prevent fuel spillsSee fuel warnings on page 4.7Remove choke and throttle cables from carb assemblyRemove fuel return line and plugRemove flange nuts securing carb rack assembly to intake manifold and remove carb rack 3
4 Remove intake manifold bolts and intake manifold
flange nutsRemove manifoldInspect all gaskets and mating surfaces for possible air leaksRemove reed stuffers, reed gaskets, assembly, and lower reed gaskets
Reed Valve Inspection
Thoroughly inspect condition of reed valve stuffersreed valves and gaskets Replace if necessaryReed valves are sometimes held open by carbon or other small particlesRemove screws from reed stopRemove the reed, making sure not to flip the reed if it is to be re-used Reverse positioning of reed will cause breakage
