FFI TM engines have protective feature that prevents engine damage due to an engine cooling system overheat, alternator output exceeding 45 volts, or excessive EMM temperatureThis feature is called S.L.O.W(Speed Limiting Overheat Warning)OM
A number of devices monitor engine operating conditionsAll are linked directly to the EMM, which in turn is connected to the MFI check engine lightA complete listing of failure modes and their effect on engine operation can be found under the Service Codes heading in the Diagnostics section
Initiation
When the appropriate sensor or switch is activated, the EMM responds by interrupting fuel injector operationIt begins gradual five second drop in engine RPM to threshold limit of approximately 3500 RPMThis is accomplished by cutting out one cylinder at timeThe EMM turns on the MFI check engine lightAs long as S.L.O.Wis activated, the engine will run normally below 3500 RPMAbove 3500 RPM, the engine will run poorlyOM
