ELECTRICAL Charging SystemSwitch Testing Charging System Testing (Regulated Voltage)
12Turn multitester dial to volts DCand connect leads across battery terminals
Start and briefly run engine at 3000 RPM Measured voltage should be around 14.5 VDCA higher reading may indicate regulator problem or poor ground at the regulator heat sinkA lower reading may indicate an excessive system load, alternator problem, or faulty regulatorIf DC Volt reading is low, charge and test battery as outlined on page 7.14-7.15, and re-testNOTE: The regulatorrectifier is solid state unit and no repair or adjustment is possible
Start Switch Testing
12Set multitester to ohms (Q) position Unplug starter switch connector (redpurple and yellowred wires) from terminal board and starter solenoid or MFD wireConnect one of the test leads to the redpurple wire and the other lead to the yellowred wireDepress start buttonThe reading should be .3 ohms or lessA high resistance or open reading indicates faulty switchRelease start buttonAn open reading (OL) should be indicatedIf low resistance is measured, replace the switchco co co
