ENGINElCOOLING Disassembly InspectionPro 785 Connecting Rod Small End Inspection
With pin and bearing centered in rod, twist ends back and forth in all directions to check for excessive axial playPull up and down evenly on both ends of pin to check for radial playReplace pin and bearing if there is any resistance to rotation or excessive axial or radial movementIf play or roughness is evident with new pin and bearing, replace the connecting rod
Piston InspectionMeasurement
Check piston for scoring or cracks in piston crown or pin areaExcessive carbon buildup below the ring lands is an indication of piston, ring or cylinder wearMeasure piston outside diameter at point 13mm (12") up from the bottom of the skirt at 90 angle to the direction of the piston pin Record the measurement for each piston NOTE: The piston must be measured at this point to provide accurate piston-to-cylinder clearance measurementSubtract this measurement from the minimum cylinder measurement recorded previouslyIf clearance exceeds the service limit, measure new pistoncalculate clearanceIf clearance is excessive with new piston, the cylinder is worn and must be replaced(
