ELECTRICAL Battery Maintenance Refilling Low Battery
The normal chargedischarge cycle of battery causes the cells to give off hydrogen and oxygen, These gases are the ingredients of waterBecause of the loss of these gases and the lowering of the electrolyte level, it will be necessary to add pure, clean distilled water to bring the fluid to the proper levelAfterfill ing, charge the battery to
raise the specific gravity to the fully charged (1.270 or greater) position
Off-season Storage
To prevent battery damage during extended periods of non-use, the following basic battery maintenance items must be performed: Remove battery from machine and wash case and battery tray with mild solution of baking soda and waterRinse with lots of fresh water after cleaningNOTE: Do not get any of the baking soda into the battery or the acid will be neutralizedUsing wire brush or knife, remove any corrosion from cables and terminalsMake sure electrolyte is at proper levelAdd distilled water if necessaryCharge at rate no greater than 110 of the battery's amplhr capacity until the electrolyte's specific gravity reaches 1.270 or greaterStore battery either in machine with cables disconnected, or store in cool dry place NOTE: Stored batteries lose their charge at the rate of per dayThey should be recharged to full charge every 60 to 90 days during non-use periodIf stored during the winter months, the electrolyte wi ll freeze at higher temperature as the battery dischargesThe chart below indicates freezing points by specific gravityELECTROLYTE FREEZING POINTS Specific Gravity of Electrolyte Freezing Point -75F -35F -l +5 +18F +2rF
