TECHNICAL FEATURES
OFF-THROTTLE STEERING (OTS)
When the throttle is closed (i.e released), resulting in no thrust at the jet pump, the watercraft cannot be steeredWhen an obstruction in the water is encountered (e.g another watercraft, rocks), the proper evasive maneuver is to continually engage the throttle and turn to avoid the hazardTo novice operator, the concept of actually accelerating when coming upon an obstruction in the water seems counterintuitiveMost watercraft riders, when confronted with hazard, will instinctively release the throttle in an attempt to avoid collisionHowever, as mentioned above, this will result in no thrust at the jet pump, and no ability to steer the craftThe OTS is designed to provide some turning thrust when the rider lets go of the throttle when trying to avoid hazards
OPERATION
1The ECM will initiate the OTS after the engine speed is kept above 4,000 rpm for few seconds, and then the throttle is suddenly released2The limit switch, which is located below the steering shaft retainer on the inside of the hull, is switched on when the handlebar is turned fully to the right or left, causing signal to be sent from the switch to the ECM3The ECM then sends signal to the OTS solenoid valve4The OTS solenoid valve opens5The OTS control diaphragm is actuated by vacuum pressure of the intake manifold6The throttle valves are opened by the rod connected to the vacuum actuator7The ECM sends the signal to the combination meter, causing the tachometer segments to flash rapidly and alternately
