11-8 HAND REWINDSTARTER During installation, the spring will be placed under high tensionTake all applicable cautions when workina with this sorina2Lubricate the spring and center bushing with waterproof grease3Install the drum stopper4Place the bent end of the spring into the groove on the drum5Twist the drum counterclockwise to make sure the spring is positively engagedIf resistance is not felt, the spring may not be engaged properly6Insert the shorter bent end of the drive pawl spring into the drum hole and then hook the longer bent end on the drive pawl grooveTurn the drive pawl clockwise to ensure the assembly is installed properly7Lubricate and install the drive plate and the friction spring8Install the stopper arm and the drum stopper spring9Install the cotter pin and the washer that secure the stopper arm to the drum stopper10Wind the rope around the drum 2.5 times counterclockwise and hook the rope in to the notch on the drumRotate the drum counterclockwise rotations and wind the rope around the drum1Starter case
REMOVALINSTALLATION
1Remove the engine cover fasteners and lift off the engine covers2Remove the recoil starter assembly attaching bolts and lift the assembly from the powerheadTo install: 3Place the recoil starter assembly on the powerhead and tighten the attaching nuts securely4Install the engine covers and secure them with the cover fasteners5Pull the starter knob several times and check for the proper operation of the ratcheting mechanism2Starter roll spring 3Sheave drum 4Spring 5Drive pawl Drive plate 7Starter cup
