10-8 REMOTE CONTROL If the tiller steering system seems loose, first check the engine for proper mountingEnsure the engine is fastened to the transom securelyNext, check the tiller hinge point where it attaches to the engine and tighten the hinge pivot bolt as necessaryExcessively tight steering that cannot be adjusted using the tension adjustment is usually due to lack of lubricationOnce the swivel case bushings run dry, the steering shaft will get progressively tighter and eventually seizeThis condition is generally caused by lack of periodic maintenanceCorrect this condition by lubricating the swivel case bushings and working the outboard back and forth to spread the lubricantHowever, this may only be temporary fixIn severe cases, the swivel case bushings may need to be replaced To install: Install the mounting collar, mounting rubber, distance collar and special washer on the tiller handle5Position the tiller handle on the outboard and install the tiller handle pivot boltTighten the pivot bolt securely6Check the handle for smooth operation7Install the engine coverSingle Cable

1Remove the enaine cover2Place the throttle grip in the idle position on the tiller arm3Loosen the locknut, slacken the adjustment on the throttle cable and remove the cable at the throttle lever4Label and disconnect the enaine ston switch wirina harness 5Remove the tiller handle throuah bolts6Remove the rubber grommets from the stopper, then remove the stopper from the tiller handle7Remove the tiller handle inner bushing and mount 8Slide the tiller handle from the engine caseREMOVALINSTALLATION
