ITo measure the backlash, hold the driveshaft steady and move the forward gear back and forth2Check the backlash at the heel of the forward gear3If the amount of backlash is larger than 0.004-0.008 (0.1-0.2 inmm), increase the thickness of each of the pinion gear back-up shim(s)4If the backlash is smaller, decrease the thickness of each shim05008G89
