Short shaft: 17.23 in(438 mm) Long shaft: 22.24 in(565 mm) 19Insert the shifting rod into the gearcase and retain the rod with the shifting cam stop screwCheck to be sure that the shifting rod is still capable of smooth movement20Install shift cam stop screw The propeller shaft must be out of the gearcase when installing or removing the clutch rod21Install the shifting rod guide in the sequence illustratedMake sure to apply waterproof marine grease to the O-ring22Install the water pump23Check pinion gear depth and forward gear backlash24Remove and discard the bearing housing bearing and oil seal and replace with new seal25Install new housing bearing with installer (09914-79610) or equivalentCoat seal lips with waterproof marine grease26Install new bearing housing O-ringLubricate housing O-ring and end of propeller shaft pushrod with waterproof marine grease27Insert propeller shaft into housing bore and engage the forward gear28Coat bearing housing outer edges (front and rear) with waterproof marine grease29Carefully install bearing housing on propeller shaft30Check propeller shaft thrust clearance as described in this chapter31When proper propeller shaft thrust clearance has been established, coat the bearing housing bolt threads with Silicone sealerInstall housing and tighten bolts securely32Fill the gearcase with the recommended type and quantity of lubricant33Check gearcase lubricant level after engine has been runChange the lubricant after 10 hours of operation (break-in period)05008G44
