2Remove the retaining screws that hold the pump to the carburetorDESCRIPTIONOPERATION
The smaller capacity powerheads do not have fuel pump of any typeFuel is provided to the carburetor by aravitv flow from the fuel tank atop the powerheadThe rest of the carbureted models use diaphragm-type fuel pumpThese pumps are operated bv crankcase pressuresThese pressure pulses are created by the movement of the piston in the crankcaseand are directed to the pump by passageway in the crankcase wallThe piston moving upwards creates low-pressure on the diaphragm in the pump bodyThis low pressure opens check valve in the pump body, allowing fuel to be drawn from the fuel line to the pumpAt the same time, the low pressure in the crankcase draws the air-fuel mixture into the crankcase from the intake manifold and carburetorsDownward motion of the piston creates high-pressure on the diaphragmThis high-pressure closes the inlet check valve in the pump body and open the outlet check valve, forcing the fuel in the fuel lines into the carburetor float bowl and moving the fuel-air mixture in the crankcase into the combustion chamber where ignition occursThis type of fuel pump is not powerful enough to draw fuel from the fuel tank during crankingIn that case, it is necessary to introduce fuel into the carburetor with the priming bulb mounted on the fuel lineSuzuki uses both powerhead mounted, remote pumps and integral carburetorlfuel pumpsBoth designs are very simple and reliableThe most common failure is to the diaphragm, and dirty fuel can block the check valve, causing it to failMost fuel systems are equipped with separate fuel filter and some are equipped with fuellwater separating filter assembly3Remove the pump as an assemblyTo install: 4Reassemble the pump components in the reverse order of disassembly, using new gaskets5Mount the pump assembly back on the side of the carburetorDo not over-tighten the mounting screws6Unplug and reinstall the fuel hosesOVERHAUL
