SERVICE MANUAL Pull rod (11) and spring (12) from shaft (16)Remove retainer (15) from dog clutch (13), push out pin (14) and slide dog clutch (13) off shaft (16)Remove pinion bearing (37) by driving down into propeller shaft cavityInspect all components for excessive wear or other damage and renew as necessaryRenew all seals, "0" rings and gasketsCoat all friction surfaces and bearings with an approved gear lubricant during reassemblyApply suitable water-resistant grease to sealing surfaces and seal lipsReassemble lower unit gearcase in reverse order of disassembly while noting the following: Renew all gaskets and sealsApply suitable water-resistant grease to lip area of all sealsPlace pinion bearing (37-SZ7-22) into gearcase with stamped mark (S-FigSZ7-23) facing upUsing Suzuki special tools or suitable equivalent arranged as shown in FigSZ7-23, pull bearing into gearcase until top of pinion bearing is 162 mm (6.4 in from top surface of gearcase as shown in FigSZ7-23To determine the correct pinion gear shim (32-FigSZ7-22) thickness, assemble shim (32) thrust washers (33 and 35) and thrust bearing (34) as shown in FigSZ7-24NOTE' Inside diameter of upper thrust washer (35) Is 18 mmInside diameter of lower thrust washer (33) Is 17 mmMake sura thrust washers ara Installed In the cor rect location
