SERVICE MANUAL tween black wire with white tracer and black wire on number coilPrimary resistance should be 0.1-0.4 ohms on both coilsRenew coil(s) if not to specificationTh check secondary windings, connect tester between orange wire and end of spark plug lead on number coil and black wire with white tracer and end of spark plug lead on number coilSecondary resistance should be 2700-4100 ohms on both coilsRenew coil(s) if resistance is not to specificationRECfIFIERDisconnect rectifier and connect tester leads according to chart in FigSZ7-13Renew rectifier if resistance values are not as shownable, remove gearcase as outlined in the appropriate section and check condition of water pump, water tube, water passages and sealsInspect impeller (3) and impeller plate (2) for excessive wear or other damageInstall seal (6) into housing (5) with lip facing away from impellerApply suitable water-resistant grease to seal lipWhen installing housing over impeller, rotate drive shaft in clockwise direction in order to seat impeller vanes in the proper directionAvoid turning drive shaft in opposite direction after water pump is reassembledLubricate seals (8 and 10) with suitable water resistant grease when installing water tubeTHERMOSTATCooling system is equipped with thermostat (4-FigSZ7-15) to regulate operating temperatureThermostat can be removed from cylinder block after removing cover (6)If thermostat malfunction is suspected, check for foreign material in thermostat valve seat'!est thermostat by suspending thermostat in water with suitable thermometerAs water is heated, thermostat should start to open at 48-52C (U8-126F)Thermostat should be renewed if opening temperature is not within specified range
