SERVICE MANUAL FigSZt:3-26) and drive plate (20), spring (16) and spring (19)Remove snap ring (IB) and washer (17)Carefully lift rope pulley (14) with rope from housing, making sure rewind spring remains in housingUsing suitable hand and eye protection, remove rewind spring (1:3) from housingReassembly is the reverse of disassembly procedure noting the following: Apply suitable water-resistant grease to rewind spring (1:1), bushing (11) and washer (10)Starting with outer coilwind rewind spring into housing in counterclockwise ;jireetiollUse caution not to allow rewind spring to fly out of housingTie starter rope onto pulley (14) and thread through rope guide in housing (9)Install rope pulley by aligning slot in center hub with eye on inner coil of rewind spring, then place pulley into housingRotate pulley counterclockwise slightly to ensure pulley and rewind spring are properly engagedRotate pulley counterclockwise to wind rope onto pulley 2'1, turnsPlace rope into notch in pulley, then while holding rope in notch (N), rotate pulley four turns counterclockwise to preload rewind springRelease rope and allow rewind spring to wind remainder of rope onto pulleyInstall neutral start cable and adjust length of cable so mark (MFigSZI3-27) is located between marks (X and Y) on starter housing (9) with shift lever in forward or reverse positionStarter should only be operable with outboard in neutral
