SERVICE MANUAL power head and lower unitPump is located in the gearcase and driven by the propeller shaftWater inlet should be inspected for plugging or partial restriction if cooling system malfunction is noted Refer FigSZI-9 for exploded view of water pumpTo remove the impeller, remove propeller, propeller thrust pin and gearcase nd cap (I), then withdraw the im peller (2)Inspect impeller for cr.l.cks or excessive wear or scoringPower head should be separated from drive shaft housing and water passages thoroughly cleaned if large accumulations of foreign material are evidentTurn propeller shaft in clockwise direction when inserting impeller in pump cavityshaftPress rankshaft seals flu sh against thrust ringsInstall "0" ring (8) in cylinder blockthen apply suitable water resistant-grease to "0" ring and splined rea of crankshaftApply suitable sealer to cylinder block nd crankcase half mating surfaces and position crankcase half on cylinder blockUSing crossing tighten six crankcase screws to 8-12 N'm (6-9 ft -lbsDo not use sealer when installing cylind er head gasketAlign water passage oles in cylinder block with holes in head gasket and install cylinder headTighten cylinder head bolts in crossing pattern to 8-12 N'm (6-9 ftlbs
