Engine Electrical Devices: Trim Sensor The trim sensor is variable resistor typeWith the sensor signal received, the ECM performs the learning of the trimtilt position and it controls the position of both the trim down limit and the tilt up limitThe trim sensor signal also operates the trim meter through the ECM 1C-5

Cranking Switch Signal The ECM detects if the engine is being started by the position of ignition switchWhen the ignition key is turned to ST position, voltage (12 V) signal is input to the ECMThe ECM in turn sets the ignition, fuel injection, IAC, etcto the starting modeWhen the key is turned to the IG position, after the engine has been started, the input voltage becomes approx2.5 V2 3

Failure symptom: In the event of sensor failure: The ECM performs the control on the assumption that the sensor output is 3.9 The control of the trim down limit and the tilt up limit becomes inoperative The trim gauge indicates full trim positionNOTE When the ECM has been replaced, the trim sensor removedreinstalled, or the mid unit overhauled, resetting of both the tilt up limit and trim down limit must be performedECM Main Relay The ECM main relay is installed in the fuse boxWhen energized by turning the ignition switch "ON", battery voltage is supplied to the ECM, fuel injector, ignition coil, IAC valve and high pressure fuel pumpWith the ignition switch in the "OFF" position, and the UP or DOWN button of the PTT switch pressed, the main relay turns "ON" to supply 12 power to the ECM, which then performs the onoff control of the PTT motor relay
